Test of 11 antivirus solutions for small and medium enterprises
The German AV-TEST antivirus laboratory tested 11 antivirus solutions for companies from the SME sector. The test platform was Windows 7, which, according to statistics, StatCounter is the most used operating system in companies - it has captured 65% of the market, while Windows 8 and Windows XP are 22% and 18% respectively.
The AV-Test is divided into three stages, which are designed to assess the effectiveness of protection, antivirus agent performance and usability, which consists of the number of blocked "clean" sites and installers of various software.
However, the most important category of research is protection, first of all it determines the choice of protective protection. AV-TEST simulates a scenario of protection against online threats, including 0-day malware, email attachments, malicious websites and malicious files that have been moved from external storage devices.
Very good effectiveness of the program can not be paid for using too much hardware resources. AV-TEST, when evaluating the overall performance, takes into account such factors as downloading files from the network, copying files from / to the local network, installation time of programs, time of running the application, eg Word or Excel.
The usefulness of programs from the circle is checked based on the number of generated false positive.
Almost 30,000 malware samples with different attack vectors (mail, www, usb) were used for the test. We are just curious why the result was rounded to "almost" and the exact number of malware was not given. Maybe the exact number is not significant for the statistical reader of the report, however, the indication of accurate measurements, even up to two decimal places, is one of the elements of a reliable methodology and approach to clients.
