Uber was hacked and his boss fired

Joe Sullivan, head of the Uber security department and his lawyer, were released after paying $ 100,000 to hackers to hide the mass data breach that occurred in October 2016. According to Bloomberg, the current president of the company said the burglary was reported. Uber was hacked after the cybercriminals obtained credentials for the Amazon Web Services account that contained stolen information.

Burglary, and thus data breach, has had a huge impact on both Uber customers and drivers around the world. Unfortunately, victims and law enforcement agencies have never been informed about this. Hackers stole names and license numbers of approximately 600,000 US drivers and personal details of 57 million Uber account holders. The information included names and surnames, e-mail addresses and telephone numbers. Cybercriminals did not enter corporate systems, bank account numbers or social security numbers, nor obtained birth dates. This was confirmed by the general director of Uber Dara Khosrowshahi.

"There should never be such a thing. Although I can not erase history, I can commit myself on behalf of every Uber employee that we learn from our mistakes. We'll change the way we do business to ensure honesty in every decision we make. We will work hard to gain the trust of our clients, "said Dara Khosrowshahi.

The former CEO of Uber, Travis Kalanick, was notified of this violation in November 2016 during a separate privacy investigation conducted by the Federal Trade Commission, but he kept this information confidential.

"Such a situation should never happen. Just after detection, all users must be informed about the cybercriminals' attack in order to change account passwords as soon as possible. Large enterprises should take care of frequent security audits that can prevent hackers from entering hackers. "- said a certified Bitdefender solutions engineer in Poland.

Uber ensures that the stolen information has already been destroyed. At the time of writing this article, no evidence of fraud or misuse of data was detected. All accounts that have been attacked by hackers are monitored and receive additional protection against fraud.
